Leveraging impactful data to drive European action on digestive health
Digestive diseases and cancers pose a significant public health and economic burden across Europe. Despite this, they remain poorly understood and receive limited attention in terms of policy, funding and research.
To address this, United European Gastroenterology (UEG) challenged the Beyond team to develop and implement a strategy that effectively engaged and mobilised European policymakers.
Our approach
Recognising the time constraints and information overload faced by European policymakers, our strategic approach was to communicate key issues and policy demands in a concise and accessible manner.
Working closely with UEG, we:
Harnessed data from a comprehensive pan-European study on digestive diseases and research gaps to create a visually powerful report that summarised the study’s main findings and presented actionable recommendations for policymakers
Supported the launch of the report at a high-profile event held at the European Parliament to spark discussion and generate meaningful engagement among influential EU policymakers
Authored and strategically placed opinion editorials in prominent European policy and health-focused media outlets to amplify the report’s reach among our core audiences
Leveraged key milestones, including Digestive Health Month and World Digestive Health Day, to drive traffic to the report through a creative social media campaign
Outcome
The report was a highly successful tool to reach and engage the target audience. A print version was distributed to EU stakeholders during the European Parliament event, whilst the digital version garnered over 1400 total visits on UEG’s website from March to May 2023.
Media coverage was achieved in Euractiv and The European Medical Journal, providing over 1,800,000 opportunities to see. The social media campaign generated over 500 link clicks to the report during May 2023.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback on the booklet from various stakeholders in Brussels. The format and the layout are very much appreciated.”
